How The Centralized Waiting List Works

1.       Please note that the Centralized Waiting List does not guarantee you one of the vacant spots.

2.       Your registration date will be the date your completed registration form is received at our office. As much as possible, the priority procedure for clients on the Centralized Waiting List operates on a “first come, first served” basis.

3.       Individual child care services may also have their own internal policies concerning the selection process, particularly relating to priority for children of the same family or children of parents/guardians who study or work in an organization or workplace that supports the child care program.

4.       As parents/guardians, you should contact Child Care Information as soon as possible to report any changes in the information in your child’s file (address, telephone number(s), e-mail address, family situation, date of application, choice of service, etc.) so as not to lose your priority. When new child care services are added to a client’s file, the date of this addition represents the date the services concerned were requested.

5.       The child care service’s staff will contact you when there are one or more vacancies to offer you. Please note that it is very common to wait more than a year for a space-- especially for a subsidized one.

6.       As long as the file remains active, an information counsellor will contact you to verify the information and to complete the annual revision of your file.

AFTER YOU HAVE ACCEPTED A SPACE

1.       Child Care Information should be notified by both the child care service and by the parent/guardian when a space has been filled. Each client is allowed a two-month grace period after Child Care Information has been notified that the client has obtained a space. This means that the original registration form received date will be maintained for two months in case, for any reason, the parent/guardian needs to continue looking for a child care service.

2.       Once the grace period has expired, the client’s file will be closed, but can be reactivated as soon as a new application is received.

3.       If you have accepted a space with a child care service but would like to remain on the Centralized Waiting List for a future space, it is your responsibility as a parent/guardian to communicate this to Child Care Information when you notify us of your child/children’s placement.  If you haven’t communicated with us, we will assume that you no longer require care for the child/children in question and we will close the file(s) after the two-month grace period.  You may also indicate that future child care options are required on the initial registration form.
